Any pain during intercourse needs to be addressed as it will impact on the quality of sex and ultimately may effect other aspects of the relationship. Pain can be of several different types with several possible causes. Most pain can be successfully treated but it is important to have a careful diagnosis and treatment.
Pain at the entrance to the vagina making penetration difficult is called vaginismus and can be successfully treated by non invasive means by the patient in their own home. Deeper pain may require careful investigation and treatment may vary according to the nature and cause of the pain.
